On October 29th 2012 Barry and Angela Moll lost everything they owned in hurricane Sandy like the thousands of others that experienced the same thing. Barry’s church started an organization called Jersey Shore United and asked Barry to administrate this incredible project. The plan was to bring all of the churches together in the community to work alongside each other to aid in the rebuild of our neighborhoods. While good in concept the idea never took off so Barry did his best to help one family at a time using the resources available. The Robinhood Foundation awarded JSU their first grant of $500,000.00 with an additional $50,000.00 when that was spent. The grant provided quality mattresses, furniture and appliances to families looking to settle in temporary housing or at that time the rare instance a homeowner repaired and moved back home. JSU assisted over 400 families with this fund.
Then with Samaritan’s Purse leading the local disaster relief and recovery efforts in Toms River, NJ they blessed Jersey Shore United with funds to assist families in two areas. One was small construction projects with skilled volunteers, the second was delivering housewares to a family moving back home with their Operation “Hope” Chest Program. A family could make their beds, take a shower, and make a meal that first night home with this program. Now three and half years later, Jersey Shore United is a faith based standalone 501(c)3 non-profit serving the Jersey Shore. Barry Moll is the President and Executive Director and JSU continues to grow with the help of amazing people that support the cause. JSU has assisted more than 800 families in three counties granting over 3 million dollars to get them home. Jersey Shore United is local and long term and will continue for as long as it takes to help families get home all in the name of Jesus Christ!
